Summary/Abstract: The presence of consequtio temporarum in English and its absence in Serbian is the only difference in formal indicators of free indirect discourse (FID) between these two languages. Consequently, during the process of FID translation from English into Serbian, this indicator is lost. When other elements of indirect discourse (transposition of pronouns and transposition of verb forms in terms of person category) are present, those elements will be preserved in Serbian translation also preserving FID and voice duality of an original text. №s paper, however, focuses on those examples of English FID where consequtio temporarum is the only indicator of FID present, expecting that inevitable structural changes in Serbian translation will lead to a necessary loss of the only FID formal indicator present and subsequent cancellation of voice duality. The paper aims at analyzing the possible translation solutions focusing on inevitable consequences they have on both structural and stylistic aspects of a Serbian translation of an English literary text.
