Summary/Abstract: Based on numerous heterogeneous examples from Stevanović’s novel Nišči, the paper establishes and describes structural-semantic characteristics of coordinate constructions that are the foundation for one of syntactic figures of speech of addition - distribution. This figure of speech consists of two opposed parts: the unifying general substituent and its explanative copulative group. In relation to the first part, the second part usually takes the prepositioned, less frequently the postpositioned, and very rarely both positions simultaneously. The prepositioned substituent takes both the contact and distact position in relation to the copulative group, while the postpositioned takes only the contact position. Synsemantic words usually perform the substituent function, but the automenatic words do not lag much behind, too.
