Summary/Abstract: As a result of the 70-year-old existence of a common state of Czech and Slovak peoples, many contact phenomena, borrowings from the other language continually appeared in both languages. They are not only lexical borrowings, but also phonetic/phonologic, morphologic and word-formation phenomena. In the years of the existence of Czechoslovakia, Czech kept the position of the stronger and more influential language; more borrowings were therefore found in Slovak. Nevertheless, Czech also had its borrowings – slovakisms. Authors of the treatice tried to find out whether, 10 years after the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic had been abolished, slovakisms are still used by Czech native speakers. They used a questionnaire to obtain necessary information. They claim that some of older borrowings from Slovak are still used by Czech communicants. They are aware though, that these will probably be used less frequently in future and might even dissapear from the contemporary Czech vocabulary.
