Summary/Abstract: The Beauteous Joseph, as the archetype of certain virtues, appears in numerous texts of the ancient Serbian literature. From the biblical story of Joseph, medieval authors often selected the motive of his conflict with his brothers, or the motive of coming to power etc. However, the comparisons with this Old Testament figure based on the scene of Joseph’s grain sharing to hungry population of Egypt are rare. Of all the texts of the old Serbian literature this motive from the Old Testament story is most elaborated in the Service to Saint Stefan Stiljanovic. This paper, besides the dynamics of appearances of biblical parallels with The Beauteous Joseph and its function in the texts of the old Serbian literature, also analyzes the possibility of its perception in connection with the cult of Stefan Stiljanovic.
