Summary/Abstract: The poem “A fable on life” by poet Velimir Rajić, which was included in the famous Anthology of Serbian Poetry by Miodrag Pavlović, represents a piece of remarkable metric and poetic value. Nine quatrains with an alternate rhyme, constant hendecasyllables and a caesura after the fifth line and, in the greatest number of cases, an even emphasis of syllables - yield a highly constructed artistic iambus. The poem is “ruled” by two figures of speech: vision and comparison. The rhythm is very even, the melody is immaculate and calm, which is in accordance with the topic of the poem the passion given by God and accepted with tears. “A fable on life” by Velimir Ristić shines as much as any other supreme poetic accomplishment of the greatest Serbian poets who became famous by writing poems in the artistic iambus.
