Summary/Abstract: In twenty years of writing theatrical criticism for the journal Književnost (Literature), Jovan Hristić deservingly acquired a reputation of the leading Serbian theatrical critic. As a professor of dramaturgy at The Faculty of Drama Arts (FDA), he taught a course of writing of theatrical criticism as an obligatory study task during the entire second year of studies. The way in which he taught this course left an indelible mark on all generatoins of students of dramaturgy at FDA in Belgrade. With his serenity, lightness, tolerance, opennes for different opinions, but also with his uncompromising attitude to inadequate manner of expression, professor Hristić was capable of directing the students towards the way in which one should watch a theatrical performance in order to write about it, with the intention to create the impression for the readers that they watched the performance themselves.
