Summary/Abstract: This article presents the results of the latest analysis as regards the possible influence of lowering the State pension age and its effects on the Polish economy after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections that took place in 2015. The author of the article has conducted research that takes into consideration the knowledge obtained from relevant literature and is based on the statistical analysis of numerical data obtained from the OECD. The article is an attempted analysis of factors that, taking into account the country’s current demographic situation, could lead to resultant negative economic consequences from pension reforms. In the first part of the paper, the author hypothesizes the likely impact of the State pension age on the labor market. Along with empirical numerical data, it challenges those widely held opinions as regards any positive effects from a lower state pension age on the employment rate in the 15-24 age group. The paper consists of two pieces of empirical research. First, with a regression on numerical data for the 34 countries that are part of the OECD, it analyses the average values of statistics obtained for countries from the Euro Area and the European Union. The second section of the paper is an analysis of factors that will have an impact on the pension system such as the State pension age, the country’s demographic situation, and the effectiveness of its pension system. The conclusions that emerge from this analysis confirm the research hypotheses, and simultaneously show that important actions should be taken within the economic and social spheres.Inter alia, the raising of the State pension age.
