Summary/Abstract: Indian prince Josaphat, hero of the famous medieval hagiography (novel, history) was a spiritual role model to Saint Sava and according to his wish he was represented on a fresco in the monastery Studenica together with his mentor, old Baarlam. Afterwards Serbian rulers such as Stefan Nemanja, Stefan the First Crowned (Stefan Prvo- venčani) and king Milutin were represented as New Josaphats. This tradition continued in the middle of the sixteenth century when two frescoes representing Barlaam and Josaphat were painted in the monastery Krusedol. In an attempt to show connection of the iconographic model of Barlaam and Josaphat in this monastery with the model commissioned by Saint Sava, the article points to many parallels between life and achievements of Saint Sava and the ktitor (or patron) of the monastery Krusedol prince-bishop Maksim.
