Summary/Abstract: In this study it is researched how these abbreviations which are so popular among Russian and Turkish languages since the beginning of last century, came to existence and spread even though it is one of the newest method of lexicalise. The factors leading to the popularity of abbreviations whose place in languages of Russian and Turkish cannot be debatable and whose usage has been spreading, the reasons and aims of existence in the history are dealt with in this study. In the light of the consequences of this study, it has been determined that the abbreviations used today are the products of the law of “less effort in the language” and that the fast spread of them in Russian and Turkish since the beginning of 20th century is the result of dramatic changes in their life styles such as wars, revolutions, the advances in science and technology, international and socio-cultural relations.
