Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with anglicisms which develop synonymous relations with the Serbian lexis in the creative use of language. Research is based on the corpus compiled from poetical works of Matija Bećković. The corpus analysis has shown that a significant number of anglicisms are used in only one of the poet’s resent works, as well as that they are exclusively stylistically motivated. Even though the essential function of these anglicisms is an authentic portrayal of characters belonging to the contemporary globalistic society, most of them have additional functions such as conceptual metaphors, figures of speech, puns and evoking associations with concepts created in the English-speaking region. Presentation is divided in four sections. After the first introductory one, the second deals with synonymy as a result of English-Serbian language contacts, as well as a typology of English-based synonyms in Serbian. The third section deals with an analysis of stylistically motivated anglicisms as synonyms in the poetry of Matija Bećković in the context of a single sentence or longer text. The last, fourth section summarises conclusions about the expressive value and functions of stylistically motivated anglicisms as synonyms in the poetical opus of the writer.
