Summary/Abstract: Johann Gabriel Seidl, an author of the Biedermeier era who came to the Styrian province from the capital of Austria for professional reasons in 1829, published his travelogue Wanderungen durch Tyrol und Steyermark in 1840/41. The article is based on two hypotheses: 1. that the content of the transmitted knowledge regarding the ex-Habsburg provinces are subject to the intent of the author, who is influenced by the historical context, and to the specific commissions regarding his work; 2. that the connection of professional discourses on knowledge transfer and evident literary discourses is not counterproductive but rather useful for generating and transfering knowledge of both the countries. After a short biographical presentation of the author and his placement in the Biedermeier era, the article addresses the organisation of knowledge generated in the travelogue, the perspectivization and transfer of knowledge and the literarization of the historical discourse on the example of the history of Tyrol.
