Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the literary output of the Russin emigrant essaist Piotr Wajl and is built of five parts. The first andthesecond ones bring a short biography and present the author’s cooperation with Aleksander Genis. Part three takes up generic issues (Wajl’s literary output is viewed as suspended between essay and reportage). The closing parts of the article are devoted to the author’s journeys through the countries of the former Soviet Union as well as his ways of perceiving the cultural heritage of the USSR depicted in the book entitled Karta rodiny.
