Summary/Abstract: In this paper we first pointed out the origin of the notion anthologia and its various conotations during long historical period from antique and medevial into the modern and contemporary age. Regarding the presentation of the Serbian poetry we focused on three most important and almost canonic anthologies: „Anthology of the newer Serbian lyrical poetry” by eminent scholar Bogdan Popovic (1911); „Anthology of the Serbian poetry” by the famous critic Zoran Mišic (1954) and finally „Anthology of the Serbian poetry XIII—XX century” by our prominent contemporary poet Miodrag Pavlovic (1964). Each of them encircles different chronological periods of the Serbian poetry, which is not being based on the same methodological assumptions. The Popovic’s Anthology encloses the periods from romanticism to the Serbian Moderne; Mišic’s Anthology surrounds the section from the first half of XIX century till the Serbian modernism after the World War II. Finally, Miodrag Pavlovic grasps the Serbian poetry as an integral whole in an arch of seven centuries. Despite undisputable distinctions in their basic methodological aproach, criteria of selection and the selection of the poems and poets themselves, the editors/authors of these anthologies take diversified yet comparable attitude concerning issues about the tradition and innovation in the Serbian literature and poetry.
