Summary/Abstract: The way in which the Nobel Prize laureate, Ivo Andric, talked about the face colour while describing certain characters in his short stories and novels can be analysed more comprehensively only when we take into account his entire literary opus. About 390 places at which the face colour was mentioned were singled out for the needs of this paper. The colour that he chose included white, yellow, less frequently red and black and quite seldom green, olive, purple, pink. Besides red he also attributed an unhealthy red colour to some of his characters. Talking about shades he mentioned faces that were pale or fushing, sometimes dark and rarely light or glowing. He rarely relied on comparisons when it comes to face colours and he even allowed some of the comparisons to repeat. The contrast between pale and fushing occurs at several places when he described two characters comparatively (two brothers, two sisters, a husband and his wife etc.). He is consistent when it comes to an unchangeable face colour as a permanent characteristic of certain character although the description repeats at different places in the same work.
