Summary/Abstract: Religious rites of passage are strictly connected with an initiation into better understanding of one’s religion and faith. Arnold van Gennep describes pregnancy, birth, adolescence, religious initiation, marriage, death and funeral as the initiation rites fundamental to human development. Rites of passage prepare man for his entrance “inside”, that is, into the reality of God; homo religiosus sheds off his “old ego”, undergoes inner death and change and achieves “new life” in God. To Muslims, their entire religious experience is about fulfilling the requirements of Islam according to Quran. They must be obedient to Allah. Their unity and faith depend on their observance of the Five Pillars of Islam. They know and follow the will of Allah by going ever deeper into their religious experiences. To Christians, the call of Christ: “Follow me” is the beginning of the rites of passage, that is, the sacraments.
