Summary/Abstract: It is certainly that the discussions about a literal term render its basic meaning inextricable sometimes. This situation is seen especially in some of the terms that are inspired from the West to Turkish literature mostly. For that reason despite the fact that it is known that a term or method inspired from the West has already existed originally in Turkish literature substantially, it is usually difficult to prevent incomprehensibility. Irony is one of the samples that caused important discussions in West literature and evoked the mentioned problem in Turkish literature. Difference of meaning that has been formed between current and first usage of irony in Turkish and Turkish literature indicate the existence of a problem need to be eliminated. In this study as well as informing about the origin of irony it will be mentioned its meaning potential from the first usage to the current form.
