Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the narration of the Duke Draško about his stay in Venice. It investigates how the satirical and humoristic narration coincide, how the narrator specifies the subject of irony — the decadence and repression in the Venetian society — and at the same time he himself becomes a funny, unadapted “Montenegrian in Venice”. The author comes to the conclusion that the relation between satire and humour is presented as a relation between the universal and the local. Njegoš’s vacillation between the European and national culture could be felt between the lines.
