Summary/Abstract: Analysis of the qualitative and quantitative features of the style of the author of the original is necessary for a more comprehensive viewing of inconsistencies in the text of the translation. These inconsistencies, both at the lexical level and the levels higher than the lexical one, could appear both in the direct translation and in any kind of indirect translation, so the related assumption that every indirect translation is „a bad translation” is not quite correct. Inconsistencies in the text of the translation and deviations from the original have to be viewed also from the perspective of intention and goal of the text of the translation, on the axis direct translation — adaptation.
