Summary/Abstract: The goal of the paper is to present, using the indicators of economic activity, how Polish economy coped with the last global economic crisis compared to another EU country - Greece, which faced huge difficulties while trying to get back to the pre-crisis levels of economic development .In the first part of the paper the origins of the global economic crisis are briefly characterized. Thenthe results of a synthetic analysis of indicators of economic activity based on data from the World Development Indicators database are presented. The analysis is based on data describing the economic situation within the Polish and Greek economy. Both countries were chosen purposefully. Finally, referring to the results of the research of other authors, the micro-economic dimension of the consequences of the crisis within the Polish and the Greek economy is signaled.
