Summary/Abstract: The paper problematizes the relationship between the author's personality and gender trying to find out if there are any specific reasons to ask for separate studying of female voices in the history of American literature. The historical approach is applied showing that there are many reasons for this as female voices in American literature have not been studied sufficiently enough so far thanks to ideological, historical, political and other circumstances. It is concluded that author's personality has nothing to do with gender whenever female voices succeed in resisting any recognition of gender and create masterpieces.
