Summary/Abstract: In the Kojiki, being the oldest literary work of the Japanese literature, which is based on legends and traditions of ancient Japan, there are plenty of motifs which could be found in the cultures of many peoples all over the world. This paper deals with the international motifs interwoven in two mythological stories of the first volume, which form a poetic picture of the Land of the Dead. Among others, there is the motif of tasting food in the other world which causes the return to be impossible, and which is widely known as the motif of Persephone.
