Summary/Abstract: The study thematizes the cultural aspect of the East-West encounter, presented by Schrobsdorff in the encounter of the Bulgarian woman - Lydmila with the otherness of Western Europe in the topos of Paris. A main focus is on the high sensitivity of the beholder of the otherness to the wide range of possibilities of observation and perception that the foreign reality offers. The attention and the senses are directed mainly to what is beyond. It is not a question of literally seeing and watching. To watch for Schrobsdorff is something more than seeing. To watch, in her opinion, is to submerge in what is close to you. The inexpressibility of this kind of contact with other stems from the direct but brief touch that is hard to express with the conventional means of language.
