Summary/Abstract: The Internet in the modern economy has become a tool that can be used for private purposes, but also for public, business and scientific aims. It is a tool that on the one hand has revolutionized the way of communication and on the other hand, it is an effective way to get with offer to customers. Today, the Internet has become an indispensable element in the marketing strategies of modern enterprises in the field of achieving competitive advantage. The aim of the article is to present the potential generated by the Internet and to indicate its significance for modern economy and enterprises. To achieve the goal, the Author conduct an literature review and the analysis of quantitative data characterizing the contemporary Internet and its users. The result of the conducted analyses provides the image of the modern Internet and indication of possibilities and benefits of its use in the modern economy. The article also presents the capabilities of using the Internet and social media in contemporary enterprises. The results obtained, confirming the growing importance of the Internet in modern economy, indicate the need to use the Internet and social media in contemporary enterprises.
