Summary/Abstract: Against the background of the 16th century Protestant Reformation, a whole series of new religious communities emerged as a result of the aggressive propaganda of some nobility in Ukraine. In this context, the Roman Catholic Church did not remain indifferent and sought to apply the resolutions of the Trident Council where the political situation allowed it.As a result of the frequent demarcation of the borders, the counties of the South-East of the Habsburg Empire (Ugocea, Bereg, Ung, Szabolcs, Zemplen, Abauj, Borsod, Torna, Saros, Gemer, and Spis were ruled either by Calvinists or by Catholics noble. The Orthodox communities here have been subjected to religious pressure from both sides. The Orthodox bishops and believers here have been promised many facilities (never fulfilled) from both religious (Protestant and Catholic) camps. In this study, the I present the role played by various personalities at that time, both from members of the noble families (Rakoczy and Drugeth) and from the different Churches, and the way in which alleged local councils were made false documents for to justify the existence of a new bishopric at Muncevo.
