Summary/Abstract: This research aims to determine the effect of using the musical elements of Turkish Cypriot Folk Tunes which are adapted to violin upon violin students’ abilities to play violin. “Sirto” and “Zeybek” are the melodies which adapted to violin among Turkish Cypriot melodies which are played and have typical dance patterns. The study conducted in experimental “one group- pretest- final test” pattern with the 12 students in the Eastern Mediterranean University. In preliminary observation, the group played the unadapted (original) version and in final observation they played adapted version. Observation used as information gathering method in this research. All data collected and analysed in both quantitative and qualitative basis. As a result, the tests demonstrate that Folk Tunes which adapted to violin affected the students’ ability to play in both technical and musical ways positively. We observed a significant increase and positive development for each behaviour.
