Summary/Abstract: Leon Golub’s photograph archives that he has been bringing together since the years he began getting art education are the firsthand resources that he refers throughout his further artistic career. The artist created paintings by taking advantage of such photos; however, Golub has pursued the content of materialistic things rather than a photographic image by going beyond the settled perceptions, namely, the reality! As a matter of fact, the extraordinary painting language created by Golub is based on his analysis of the contents of consciousness. Golub has regarded metal actuality as condition for himself using the facilities of photographs mostly as memory in the process of painting. In Leon Golub's art, what is meant by the relationship of photo and image is not only copying the gaze or position of a figure or image. What should be focused on is that there is a similar dialectical process in the action of a conscious selection while the artist composed his paintings as well. How Leon Golub established the relationship between photograph/painting in his way of understanding art, what kind of advantages photograph provides just at the structuring stage of his painting and the track of the contributions of the fact that he regarded photograph as a kind of memory are studied in the article.
