Summary/Abstract: Foreshadowing is a literary technique in which the writers give clues or hints about the events that will occur later in the stories or novels. It is widely discussed in the criticism of Western Literature yet it is not commonly mentioned in the discussions of Turkish literature, especially in the criticism of novels. Elif Şafak, one of the most popular contemporary Turkish novelists, uses foreshadowing masterfully in her novels. This study will present the literary technique of foreshadowing within the context of Turkish literature and discuss Elif Şafak’s use of foreshadowing in two of her novels, The Bastard of Istanbul (Baba ve Piç) and Honour (İskender).
