The end of illusions over the "end" of American hegemony

Summary/Abstract: In light of recent international developments, which precipitated in the September 11 tragic events and the onset of the war in Iraq in the spring of 2003, it is of interest to analyse the structure of the current system of international relations as well as the role of the great powers in this system. Focusing on the structure of the present global system and contextualizing the treatment of this issue historically and geopolitically, the following analysis aims to help better understand the dynamics of present international relations as well as the nature of the global system that will characterize the 21st century.
