Summary/Abstract: The main aim of this article is to analyze the conceptualization of memories in VladimirNabokov’s memoir, Speak memory: An Autobiography Revisited and its Polish and Russian translations.The article uses the devices of cognitive linguistics. Nabokov’s text contains three types of conceptual metaphors based on visual effect: MEMORIES ARE A SERIES OF FLASHES,MEMORIES ARE PERSONAL GLIMMERS and TO RECOLLECT IS TO JOURNEY BACK.Such metaphorical images are conveyed in translations in which many semantic shifts and transformations occur.
