Summary/Abstract: Peyami Safa’s Yalnızız novel is a thesis work. In the novel, spirit and metarial conflict is handled. Peyami Safa is known to be a writer adopted spiritualism. Safa glorifies spiritualism at spirit and metarial conflict and highlights the insignificance of the material in this novel. In the work, character of Samim represents spiritualism. Samim is novel’s protagonist who gives weight to inwardness. Besim defends materialism as a type of hedonistic character locates against Samim. Besim draws attention as a type who dedicated to his life entirely pleasure’s order. He spends all his time drinking, eating and reading. He has no concern of a moral and sacred value. He think that life should be lived without any moral and conscience concern. He moves away all senses that give sadness. He does not lose joy even in the most difficult times. Besim’s these features stands out him as the most remarkable people of the novel. A hedonist type is very uncommon in Turkish novels. In the novel, it will focus on via Besim’s hedonism how this type is handled by the author and will be included in the concept of hedonism.
