Summary/Abstract: Wars and battles are as old as history of mankind. Nowadays, some of the former battlefields -where millions of people obiited- have turned to be tourist attractions. Battlefield tourism as a sub-category of cultural heritage tourism is nestled in thanatourism or dark tourism which can be defined as travel to a location wholly, or partially, motivate by the desire for actual or symbolic encounters with death. This phenomenon is not just about visiting the battlefields it may also include the commemorative activities including visiting memorials, monuments and war cemeteries. This research focuses on the war monuments of Turkey. Initially, an official list of registered 353 monuments obtained from Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry. Then quantitative and qualitative data related to registered war monuments analyzed through Geographical Information System. The results of this research may help to develop this niche tourism market.
