Summary/Abstract: Ali Ahmad Bakathir, who has products in different areas of literature such as poetry, drama and novel, was born in Indonesia, received his basic education in the Hadramaut region of Yemen, his homeland, and afterwards settled in Egypt. In this article, the poetic side of Bakathir is addressed, and his position within the free verse movement in the modern Arabic literature is mentioned. Because, free verse is the most concrete example of the change, emerged in Arabic poetry starting from the 20th century. Bakathir, who grew up inside a group of poets, took lessons from them, wrote poems by having interest in this branch of art starting from his early ages in Hadramaut, which is among the very old bases of poetry, came to the forefront with his products in theatre and novelty rather than the poetry, in the world of literature. In formation of this perception, his focusing on theater and not being printed of his poems in the form of divan have significant share. In fact, he had never broken away from the poetry at any point in his literary life, on the contrary the poems that he wrote have been published in important journals and newspapers of the Arabic world.
