Summary/Abstract: The main theme of the socialist realistic artistic understanding that takes its source from Marxism is the relation among man, society and its production. This artistic understanding emerged in Russia and fed from the teachings of Marxism; Turkish literature begins to be affected especially in the first years of the Republican period in some aspects such as poetry, novel, story, theatre, etc. written during the Republican period. It is seen that this understanding which is influential in literary genres leaves important influences especially on Turkish poetry. The socialist realistic poetry that emerged at the beginning of the Republic era continues in diverse forms. This understanding of poetry started with Nazım Hikmet, especially with the 1940s, is defended by a wider poet cadre. The important part of these poets, called “the 40th generation”, were inspired or nourished by the poetry concept of Nazim Hikmet. Artists such as Ercüment Behzat Lav, İlhami Bekir Tez, Attilâ İlhan, Rıfat Ilgaz, Ahmed Arif, A. Kadir, Enver Gökçe, Omer Faruk Toprak, Niyazi Akıncıoğlu, Cahit Irgat who have formed a poetical understanding on this line along with Nazım Hikmet being the pioneer of this art concept gave socialist poetry as a leading poet in this generation.
