Lexical Collocation – A Basic Overview of the Concept’s Development

Summary/Abstract: Lexical collocation is a key concept in modern phraseology, but also one of the most controversial. _ere are two fundamental ap-proaches to the concept: the frequency “bottom-up” approach closely associated with corpus linguistics and its statistical methods, and the phraseological “top-down” approach linked to traditional phraseology and its practical applications in pedagogical lexico-graphy and language teaching. Both approaches are briefly outlined and compared.
