Summary/Abstract: The development of technology aims at the introduction to the market of autonomous vehicles, meaning the vehicles able to drive without the influence of the human operator. Solving technicalad construction problems is as important as preparing the legal system for the use of autonomouscars. The first regulations are created in particular states of the United States. After presenting thechosen statutes, the article will define the motion of an autonomous vehicle and its operator, as wellas it will present the attitude of the state legislators towards the analyzed issue. Afterwards, thoseconsiderations will constitute a basis for indicating specific issues that require the interventionof the Polish lawmaker. First of all, we should define the technical conditions for legalization ofautonomous cars as well as categories of persons authorized to operate them. Then the rules of tortliability for accidents caused by those cars should be created. Lastly the legislator should definethe conditions of penal responsibility for road crimes and infractions.
