Summary/Abstract: Recent neurobiological findings about addictions leads to the new way of thinking about problematic behaviors. This paper describes the main neuronal mechanisms underlying behavioral addiction and discuss compulsive sexual behaviors (CSB) form the perspective of four different frameworks: sexual drive disorders, impulse control disorders obsessive-compulsive disorders and behavioral addiction. Research and clinical observation suggest that CSB may be a heterogeneous entity. The term probably covers a set of issues, very similar at the level of symptoms, but different in the underlying mechanism. The aims and methods of therapy should take these mechanisms into consideration.
