Summary/Abstract: Is Ala in the primer still helping Mum in the kitchen, while Janek’s out playing football with his friends and Dad’s reading a paper as he rests after a tough day at work? One would have thought that today’s school textbooks no longer embraced such a stereotypical division of roles by sex and traditional family model. But is that actually so? In order to answer this question, this article presents the findings of research covering Polish textbooks for early-school education in regard to the models of family and parenthood presented in them, as well as the resultant images of the sexes and the relations between girls/women and boys/men. In the second section of the paper the research findings are compared to current research covering Spanish school textbooks based on accumulated literature by Spanish male and female authors. This comparison will enable a broader diagnosis of anti-discrimination and gender equality education in schools in Poland.
