Summary/Abstract: As Catholic social teaching indicates, the main factor for economic development is the human person with freedom to act in a society, protection of economic rights and abilities for self-expression necessary for the socio-economic life of a community. There are also elements to which sound economic development belongs: the principle of global solidarity toward eco¬nomic life in a society itself and among nations in the world, and the principle of subsidiarity which guards against monopolistic economies and secures the rights of employers through governmental policies. These principles are directed toward shaping the common good of human society. The Church is the necessary actor in the socioeconomic life of society, promoting authentic development and guarding the dignity of the human person by emphasizing the religious-mo¬ral interpretation of the human person and society.
