Summary/Abstract: The paper explores the linguistic behavior of the aesthetic predicates that describe the stylistic properties of artworks. It concludes that the reference to an author’s individual style has to be distinguished from other variants of stylistic predication. One main implication of this analysis is a critique of the “death of the author”, a notion that has been very influential in literary theory since the 1960s.
