Summary/Abstract: Aphrodisiacs are defined as specific substances which activate emotional-sexual sphere and increase either normal or decreased sexual stimulation. They cause the hyperaemia of selected pelvis minor organs and they activate parasympathetic centers localized in the medulla. Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and use of aphrodisiacs among the Silesian Region students. Material and methods: A group of 100 students of the Medical University of Silesia and the Silesian University in Katowice was subjected to an analysis. The research tool was a self-prepared questionnaire containing questions about the knowledge and use of aphrodisiacs. Statistica 6,0 computer software was used in statistical analysis. Results: The mean age was 23,2 ± 2,27. 70% of women and 47% of men declared stable relationships as well as the majority of respondents stated regular sexual life. 98% of students knew many forms of aphrodisiacs. Aphrodisiacs were used in 36% by students as sexual stimulation. The effectiveness of aphrodisiacs was confirmed by 68% of female and 58% of male, respectively. Conclusions: Aphrodisiacs might cause a positive effect but more prospective clinical studies should be performed to evaluate their activity and effectiveness
