POLITICAL AND MILITARY IMPORTANCE OF THE SUWALKI GAP

Summary/Abstract: The article describes problem of the Suwalki gap, its political and military determinantsand its significance for both the Russian Federation and NATO. The author summarizesthe military potential and capabilities of Russian Federation, Belarus, Poland and Lithuania in this area. The aim of this study is to show the strategic importance of thisregion to interested parties. Clashing the interests of states in this part of Europe maylead to conflicts and pose a threat to security, not only to these countries but also toothers.
