The importance of pragmatics in English as lingua franca

Summary/Abstract: This article pays attention to pragmatics in the context of English as a lingua franca. We put emphasis on an importance of pragmatics and its role in an interaction in English as a lingua franca. It provides an overview of recent empirical studies conducted on the process of communication through English. According to the recent discussions on the ELF, we try to investigate and describe some strategies used in ELF interaction which are usually used to make conversation successful despite the occurrence of grammatical infelicities and pronunciation variants.
