Summary/Abstract: The article discusses issues related to the security of Poland, connected with the accession to the European component of the American Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). In recent years in Poland this issue has become the subject of a broad debate on international security and the extent of cooperation in the establishment of common forms of prevention and control of risks arising from access to the means of delivery of weapons of mass destruction, especially by ‘Rogue states’, which are a threat to international order. This article shows the impact of this system on matters of internal and external security and acquaints the reader with the complexity of the problem by presenting the approach of NATO and Russia to the project. Answering the questions: How does the deployment of elements of missile defense in Poland affect its internal and external security and how will it impact on its position in NATO and the European Union? To what extent will Obama’s new defense policy be good for European security? The author points to the opportunities and risks of locating the installations on Polish territory.
