Summary/Abstract: Risk exposure of world’s largest central banks, due to unconventional monetary policy, implemented in response to the global financial crisis, is currently a major problem. This issue, rarely analyzed so far, in the study has become a subject of particular interest. The main aim of the article is the exploration of types of risk of modern central banks and the analysis of causes of its increase. The study points out that the unconventional monetary policy of central banks is accompanied by an increase of their financial risk, which, due to their main causes, leads to reputational risk of modern central banks, impeding them normalization of that policy. Empirical research were focused on analyzing a level and structure of risk of National Bank of Poland and European Central Bank between 2007 and 2015.
