Summary/Abstract: Sexual dysfunctions represent a relevant clinical issue in patients treated for depression. They are related to both depression and side effects of the most commonly used antidepressant medications. Drug-related sexual dysfunctions are among the most common reasons for treatment discontinuation. In light of the fact that sexual issues are linked with patient’s subjectivism, physician’s caring attitude with regard to one of the most important areas of human living allows to build a better therapeutic relationship. Mechanisms responsible for sexual dysfunction in patients treated for depression with special emphasis on pharmacotherapy are also described in the paper. Clinical profiles of medications with the lowest, according to current state of knowledge, burden of sexual side-effects are presented. Subsequently, recommendations on the therapeutic proceedings in case of drug-related sexual dysfunctions in patients treated for depression are given.
