Summary/Abstract: Engineers think that pole embrace size of aPM BLDC motor affects directly the efficiency and thetorque. Dealing with theexperimental research, in thestudywe have investigated the effects of narrowingrotor pole embrace step by step by changing sizesparametrically. By doing so, high efficiency and lowcogging torque would have been obtained for a 20 WPM BLDC motor. In order to do this, pole arc to polepitch ratio of magnets at the rotor poles has beenchanged parametrically (0.5 to 1) by genetic algorithmmethodfirst. Then the electromagnetic fielddispersions, output parameters of the motor, new rotorconstructions have been obtained; and new poleembrace has been derived from the variation of polearc to pole pitch ratio. We have also calculatedthemagnetic flux distribution, output power, torque, cogging torque and efficiency values analytically andthe effects of new pole embrace to motor efficiency andtorque have been simulated. The developed 18 slots, 6poles, surface mounted inner runner configurationrotor machine is proposed as to be used insmalldentistry apparatus.
