Summary/Abstract: Kiseljak municipality settlements are mainly rural, except Kiseljak settlement which is characterized as urban. Today, these rural settlements are exposed to physionomic transformation which is reflected in a new type of construction, better infrastructural equipment (plumbing system, sewage, electrification, asphalted roads). Traditional ways of farming and animal husbandry are sporadically replaced by market-oriented farms (such as in villages of Visnjica, Brestovsko, Brnjaci, Žeželovo, Jehovac, Gromiljak). At the same time the morphological structure is also changing: scattered highland-mountain villages where the populatione used to be engaged solely in agriculture and cattle breeding (Stojkovići, Višnjica Mahala, Podastinjsko brdo, Odrače, Brizje, Kotačala, Gradac) are exposed to extinction since the populatione has moved closer to the muncipal center and to the road communicationes. New lowland settlements mainly have a residential function. Prevailing minor estates are not sufficient for intense agricultural production and are mainly converted into building parceles. In this thesis, the attention is intended into several directions: depopulation conseqence of rural settlements (highland-mountain villages from which the population moved closer to road communications and municipal center, such as Doci, Katunište, Stojkovići, Odrače, Kotačale, Brizje, Mahala Višnjca). Possibilities of revitalization of rural settlements are based on market-oriented agriculture and the opening of small family crafts or industrial facilities. The activation of tourist potential has an increased importance in the development of rural areas. Information about the current status in these settlements were obtained on the basis of field research, discussions with local community representatives and the available statistical data (of the municipal services).
