Art as a filter. Simple objects as art, art as a simple object

Summary/Abstract: This paper seeks to bring a new perspective on the discussion about what is and what is not a piece of art by introducing the notion of “perceptual filter” (or just filter). My main interest in this discourse is to examine the case of objects and certain gestures (when talking about performance art) that under certain circumstances are considered to be of more value than “simple objectsֲ – but only if the person looking at them is in the possession of a compatible "filter".
