Summary/Abstract: After the Romanian 1989 revolution, in spite of large amount of changes that occurred at all levels, many marks still remain in the depthless of society. They are better recognizable if one looks more at collective myths and mentalities than judging reality after its shallow design On the other hand, choosing a long duration perspective, Communism built the path to an alter-modernity, a different modernity that has emphasised some of the traits of industrial civilisation (ideology, bureaucracy, mass army, uniforms) by taking those traits to the extreme. The fall of Communism and the end of the Cold War was also, in many respects the end of modernity, or at least of some of its forefront features. In this logic, the Romanian contemporary historiography (as probably as in other East-European cases) blended in an interesting fashion pro-Communist era values. Communist ones and post-Communist new axiology. The case of the National Military Museum from Bucharest is in itself a history of the XX century Romanian historiography.
