Summary/Abstract: Anelia Valcheva (15 August 1921, Svishtov–7 November 2005, Sofia) in 1956 was appointed a Scientific secretary at the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”, and during the period 1977–1979 served as a Deputy Director of the Library’s Scientific Activities. The text is an excerpt from her unpublished manuscript “The Development of the People’s Library in Sofia during the Period 1924–1944”. It was written at various times mainly in the ‘60s of the last century and was preserved as a manuscript.
